Frequently Asked Questions
1Will the remodel be noisy? When?
Construction is inherently noisy; there will be noise at varying levels throughout the home renovation process. We will give you advance notice during the really noisy phases, particularly, concrete cutting, tile cutting, floor sanding, etc. so that you can plan your days accordingly
2Where are you located?
Cooper Designs currently has one location in Hickory, N.C. and serves the Catawba Valley region as well as the Charlotte Metro area.
3Will I be kept informed about the progress of my project?
You will have easy access to your project production manager and can expect ongoing communication throughout the house renovation process. When completed, we do a final project walkthrough to ensure every detail of your project is handled to your complete satisfaction.
4Do you provide a service warranty?
Yes. Cooper Designs warrants all labor in its contract work with homeowner to be free from defects in workmanship for a period of one (1) year.
5Will it be really dusty and dirty?
The dust and dirt will be the worst in the demolition phase. Once we’ve got things stripped down to the frame, things will be fairly clean. Drywall installation and sanding will create a lot of very fine dust for a few days. We do our very best to seal off the rest of the house, but a little dust will always get through. It’s a good idea to throw a plastic sheet over nearby sensitive items like electronics or fine furniture during this phase.
6Do I need a permit?
A general rule of thumb is that a permit will be required if structural alterations are required or if the general living area of the home is changed. This is true for bathroom design, a kitchen makeover, or other remodeling services.
7Does Cooper Designs Construction handle all of the necessary permits?
Yes. It is our responsibility as your contractor to handle any necessary permits. The permitting process has become more complex over time because of changing laws and regulations. Being aware of what kinds of questions to ask, and when to ask them, can save valuable time, energy and expense. We have the advantage of working with the various permitting agencies and understand how to effectively navigate the process.
8What payment methods do you accept?
Cooper Designs accepts cash, checks, home equity checks and money orders.
9Are you an experienced contractor?
We have over 30 years of experience in residential building and remodeling.
10Is working with a professional remodeler worth the money?
If you have a renovation project in mind, now you must decide: will you hire a remodeler or do the job yourself? The chance to save money is the biggest reason homeowners consider DIY remodeling. However, this could end up being the wrong decision if you can’t answer “yes” to all of the following questions:
Do you have the time?
Can you stay motivated to see the project through?
Do you have the skills, tools, and experience?
Are you certified to complete the necessary plumbing, electrical, and HVAC work?
Are you able to obtain the necessary and correct permits for this project?
Do you have architectural plans to present to the township?
Do you have the skillset to tackle any unforeseen problems?
In the end, you can save time, avoid headaches, prevent costly mistakes, and ensure a professional job well done when you leave your home remodeling project to the experts
